Job SummaryPlans, coordinates and directs the functions of the Conservatory Music program; ensures the quality of programs and safety of youth at all times; provides guidance and role modeling to youth and ensures safety and a positive experience for campers.
Essential Functions- Provides quality music instruction to campers.
- Teaches music theory as it applies to the appropriate level for playing purposes.
- Provides appropriate lessons for instruction time.
- Reviews assigned homework with students and re-teach skills if necessary.
- Be responsible for the care of instruments during class, with necessary repairs immediately reported to the Divisional Music Director.
- Prepares students for recitals and concerts.
- Plans, schedules, assign and monitor the students work in progress and upon competition to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Recommends and develops activities which will develop musical abilities, motor and learning skills of students.
- Coordinates the program and activity within the policies and operating procedures of camp.
- Maintains discipline and acceptable behaviors of students, which will create an atmosphere of friendliness and security during all program periods, enabling all students to feel welcome and comfortable.
- Participates and assists in various classes as assigned.
- Provides constant care for the needs of the campers in an efficient, clean, loving, safe, secure, and healthy manner.
- Provides opportunities for physical and mental stimulation through both inside and outside activities.
- Participates enthusiastically as a member of the camp staff team to deliver and supervise evening programs, special events, overnights and other all-camp activities and camp functions.
- Sits with camper tables during meals and serve as a table monitor when needed.
- Keeps personal living quarters neat, clean and ready for inspection.
- Be available to participate and assist with camp programs and activities as directed by the Camp Director.

Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of child and youth behavior and development.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of First Aid and C.P.R and ability to ensure the safety of campers and other staff.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of music education.
- Ability to teach classes in a group setting.
- Ability to teach students music theory.
- Ability to build and maintain effective mentor relationships with children and youth.
- Ability to communicate effectively with campers and camp staff.
- Ability to plan, develop, and implement effective childhood and youth programs and activities.
- Ability to communicate and work with groups participating (age and skill levels) and provide necessary instruction to campers and staff.
- Ability to observe camper and staff behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques.
- Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity.
- Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid;
Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers. - Ability to read and hear music notes.
- Ability to meet attendance requirements.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.
Six months experience teaching music education and teaching experience, with the ability to play and teach lessons in a classroom setting involving more than one student preferred,
or
any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
