Job Function & Areas of ImpactLead Designers serve as the primary point of contact for assigned clients, as well as for the builders, architects, and suppliers involved in each project. Responsibilities include conducting client meetings, developing construction documentation and schedules, and managing all aspects of design—from building and palette selections to furniture, soft goods, and accessories.
This outward-facing role is focused on delivering exceptional client service while proactively guiding projects to the successful completion of a fully designed home. Lead Designers work in close collaboration with the Design Director, Design Assistants, and Director of Operations to fulfill their duties and ensure project success.
Key ResponsibilitiesDesign Development & Execution
- Develop AutoCAD furniture layouts and elevations that reflect the client’s needs and preferences.
- Independently review architectural floor plans, electrical plans, RCPs, and interior elevations to identify potential design concerns or impacts.
- Spearhead cabinet design and shop drawings to ensure design accuracy and intent.
- Source appliances, plumbing fixtures, lighting, and architectural finishes aligned with project goals.
- Source and curate fabrics, furniture, rugs, finishes, fixtures, and accessories tailored to the overall design concept.
- Conduct client meetings and design presentations to communicate and refine design direction.
- Act as a liaison with local tradespeople for custom design solutions, such as window treatments and reupholstery.
- Maintain a minimum of 30 billable hours per week on average annually
- Manage projects from pre-construction through final installation of furniture and accessories.
- Create and maintain project timelines, line-item furniture budgets, and up-to-date schedules for all building selections.
- Conduct site visits for field measurements, walkthroughs, punch lists, installations, and issue resolution.
- Provide weekly project updates to clients, ensuring clear and consistent communication throughout the process.
- Collaborate with architect, builder, and subs to ensure design intent is executed at the highest level.
- Review client presentation and furniture layouts to ensure alignment with proposals and client expectations.
- Carefully review all proposals, pricing, and related documentation before they are sent to clients.
- Participating in marketing requests, vendor meetings, professional development opportunities, vendor events, and company events.
- High Point attendance is required once a year.
- Delegate tasks and mentor assigned Design Assistant to support professional development and project success.
- Professional Degree in Interior Design
- Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in interior design. High-end residential design experience strongly preferred
- Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD, Adobe Photoshop, Studio Designer, and Microsoft Office Suite
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong collaborator with the ability to work effectively across diverse teams and departments
- Highly responsible, organized, and self-motivated with exceptional time management skills
- In-depth knowledge of the full design process, from concept development through project closeout
- Proven project management experience, including the creation of schedules and coordination with builders to meet deadlines
- Well-versed in sourcing medium-high end fabrics, furnishings, and materials
- Strong aesthetic sensibility, creativity, and a consistently positive attitude
