CDM Smith’s CEI team in Charleston, SC is seeking a candidate to inspect and monitor construction activities at the project site(s). The inspector must be able to perform the most complex inspection activities for at least two of the five categories of construction inspection:
1) Roadway,
2) Bridges,
3) Drainage,
4) Erosion & Control,
5) Maintenance & Traffic. The candidate will work under limited or direct supervision depending on demonstrated knowledge for the assignment. The role requires knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in highway construction; knowledge of geometry and basic mathematics; the ability to read, interpret and explain construction plans and drawings, contract provisions, and specifications; and effective communication skills.

Minimum QualificationsHigh School diploma or equivalent. Certifications from a State Highway Agency or National Entity such as ACI (American Concrete Institute) or NICET (National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies) in earthwork, asphalt, and concrete are required if specified by the client or jurisdiction. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Minimum of 6 years of related experience. Domestic and/or international travel may be required;
frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties and project demands. Equivalent additional directly related experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
• Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in English.
• Intermediate knowledge of arithmetic.
• Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
• Ability to adapt to new technologies and quickly learn new computer, smartphone or related applications and programs.
• Advanced knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in highway construction.
• Ability to read, understand, interpret and explain construction plans and drawings, contract provisions, and specifications.
