Position Overview

Eastern Illinois University is seeking an Assistant Athletic Trainer to assist the Director in providing Athletic Training services to all student-athletes, within regulations of the university, Ohio Valley Conference, and NCAA. The role reports to the Assistant Athletic Director for Health, Safety and Performance and involves primary responsibilities with football, men’s and women’s golf.

Responsibilities
  • Support the Assistant Athletic Director for Health, Safety and Performance.
  • Maintain student-athlete records and comply with FERPA/HIPAA confidentiality and privacy guidelines.
  • Maintain and organize the Athletic Training Rooms, plan and develop improvements.
  • Ensure full compliance with university, department, and NCAA regulations.
  • Maintain medical, insurance, and rehabilitation records according to established policies.
  • Carry out effective prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation methods.
  • Effectively communicate with all parties regarding injuries and illnesses.
  • Collaborate with the EIU Insurance Office to coordinate claims and payments.
  • Assist in implementing the Substance Abuse Program.
  • Collaborate on budget development and efficient use of department resources.
  • Collaborate with athletic and university support units to ensure student-athlete health, safety, and well‑being.
  • Commit to ongoing professional development and lifelong learning.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree required in Athletic Training or related field.
  • NATA certified and Illinois license (or eligible) required.
  • Experience in college athletics preferred.
  • Experience working effectively with student-athletes, coaches, and staff.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.

Salary and Benefits

Range: $3,750 – $3,833.25/month. This is a 12‑month position eligible for the following benefits:
