Overview
JOB TITLE:
Café Assistant
HOURS:
15hrs over three days plus additional hours to cover sickness and holidays. There may also be the opportunity to help with some evening events, which usually fall on a Friday, plus other out of hours events.
- Support the supervisor in the running, organisation, and delivery of the onsite café at Ilminster Arts Centre.
- Help assist the café volunteers to ensure standards including food hygiene, customer service and health and safety are maintained.
- Help the cafe operation including assisting with food preparation, making drinks and serving food to customers.
- Ensure the highest standard of food quality and presentation.
- Processing customer orders.
- Cash handling and supporting café volunteers to take orders and process payments.
- Train and supervise café volunteers ensuring compliance with food hygiene standards, allergen awareness and health and safety.
- Maintain a clean and tidy environment at all times in the café and preparation areas including washing up.
- Cover the Café Supervisor’s duties in the event of illness or holidays, including food preparation, cashing up, routine cleaning and compliance with environmental health regulations.
- Perform any other duties that may reasonably be required as part of this job role.
- Experience of working in a team in a catering environment.
- Experience of processing payments and cash transactions.
- Excellent communication and customer care skills.
- Good numeracy and writing skills.
- Ability to work calmly under pressure.
- Neat and tidy personal appearance.
- Maintains and expects high standards of honesty and integrity.
- Willingness to be flexible.
- Prior completion of Food Hygiene Certificate Level 2 (up-to-date training can be provided).
- First Aid Certificate.
- Experience of working with volunteers.
- Food safety and hygiene certificate Level 3 (training can be provided).
- Barista experience.
- This is a fixed-term contract but may be extendable.
- The Arts Centre is currently open 9.30 am – 3 pm on Tuesdays to Saturdays.
- Standing for long periods is necessary and there may be work outside in summer months.
- Work entails reasonable lifting of heavy or bulky objects within published health and safety guidelines on manual handling.
- The Ilminster Arts Centre is a registered charity (1117698).
