SummaryThis position will serve as the Yoga Instructor for the Transforming Health & Resilience in Veterans (THRIVE) Program. The THRIVE Program is a community‑based clinical outreach program designed to provide care to Veterans and First Responders who are experiencing the effects of traumatic brain injuries (TBI) or post‑traumatic stress (PTS) resulting from a career serving our nation. The three‑phase program will evaluate, diagnose and treat physical, cognitive and other health conditions during a 3‑week intensive outpatient program.
The program will see approximately 150 Veterans per year and will provide a referral network and post‑program follow‑ups for as many as 400 Veterans and family members every year.
The Group Yoga Exercise Instructor leads Veterans and First Responders who have a history of TBI and/or PTSD through chair group exercise activities. The group consists of up to six participants in class; each class lasts 45 minutes and runs two to three times weekly. The instructor educates participants about useful and safe exercises, assists them in achieving exercise goals and creates a fun workout environment for all populations pursuant to the fitness standards.
The instructor leads members through group exercise activities in a classroom setting.
- Educate members on safe techniques and guidelines, greet all members and orient new participants. Instruct class to the ability level of the students participating and monitor participants through perceived rate of exertion. Work with participants to achieve fitness goals and encourage new participants and orient them to class.
- Instruct group exercise classes according to schedule and company standards. Start and finish class on time as scheduled. Store all equipment neatly and appropriately.
- High School Diploma or GED
- Aerobic or group exercise instruction certification. For exercise classes where certification does not exist, verified training may be considered a substitute for certification in areas of Tai Chi, Pre‑Natal Yoga, Senior Fitness, Children’s Fitness, Adolescent Fitness, Hip Hop, WSI, Line Dancing and the like. NASM approved provider.
- Six (6) months experience in leading group exercise activities
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to deal with a diversity of individuals. Ability to communicate with people of all age groups. Strong communication skills. Knowledge of safe exercise technique and principles. Ability to effectively demonstrate all skills being taught to participants.
