overview
a sign-on bonus of $4, is available for the successful applicant of this position paid in 2 installments within months of hire: $2, within days of hire date & $2, months after hire date.
this recruitment is for two (2) facility maint tech – mech trade – journey positions ( & ). By applying, you will be considered for both (2) positions.
responsibilities- performs plumbing repairs, installation, and preventive maintenance per applicable codes and standards.
- informs the supervisor and/or lead mechanic of any problems and provides updates on the status of work in progress.
- assists with area coverage to ensure that work orders, maintenance repairs and preventive maintenance (pm) requests are completed.
- as this position works in areas occupied by students, particular care must be taken to address residents’ needs, while ensuring residents’ privacy and respect for their personal property.
- demonstrates ability to work safely and collaboratively with co-workers and housing staff.
- ability to serve as a mandatory employee and report to work in support of essential university operations, even when adverse weather or other emergency conditions, including but not limited to a public health emergency, may require the university to close.
- cross-connect certification or ability to obtain one in first six months of employment (if applicable).
high school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require special licenses or certification. Optional guidelines: experience in the trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
required qualifications, competencies, and experience- experience in plumbing, demonstrated working knowledge of the methods, practices, tools and materials used in commercial plumbing maintenance and repair.
- ability to plan, problem-solve and work safely.
- ability to demonstrate great teamwork and communication skills with co-workers and housing staff.
- valid north carolina driver’s license or ability to obtain one prior to start date.
- cross-connect certification or ability to obtain one in first six months of employment.
- the preferred candidate will have progressive experience in industrial and commercial plumbing.
- experience in the installation, maintenance and repair of campus facilities is also preferred.

special physical/mental requirements ability to stand for extended periods of time; navigate stairs and climb ladders; work in small tight spaces and bend, stoop and crawl to complete work.
