Humble Umbel Farm is a two-acre vegetable and flower farm outside Hillsborough, NC, started by farming couple Anna and Brian in 2018. We specialize in year-round production of high-value crops, including lettuce, salad greens, root vegetables, herbs, microgreens, and cut flowers, as well as high tunnel tomatoes, cucumbers, and various other seasonal vegetables. We grow about 40 types of vegetables and 30 types of flowers, and sell our products primarily at local farmers markets.

Besides ourselves, we typically employ four year-round full-time staff members, as well as a few part-time market assistants.

We’re hiring one Saturday Market Assistant for the 2026 farmers market season, running from March through the end of September
. This position is scheduled Saturdays from 6:30 AM–12:30 PM at the Chapel Hill Farmers Market.

We’re looking for a hardworking, dependable, and enthusiastic individual who loves local food, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and maintains a positive attitude through early mornings and all kinds of weather. Prior customer service experience (restaurant, retail, or food sales) is required.

As a Market Assistant, you’ll work closely with a farm staff member or the farm owner and play a key role in our market operations.

Responsibilities include:

• Setting up and breaking down the market booth
• Creating and maintaining attractive produce and flower displays
• Engaging with customers and representing our farm
• Processing sales using the Square app

Farmers markets are the primary sales outlet for our small farm, so reliability is essential. This role requires consistent attendance at all scheduled shifts, with any time off requested in advance.
