Description RN Oncology Nurse Navigator—Per Diem
We are seeking a responsible, self-motivated Oncology Nurse to join our UNC Cancer team as a Nurse Navigator! In this role, you will be a vital member of the patient's interdisciplinary team guiding them through their cancer care journey.
Position detailsThis position offers the flexibility of a remote schedule once orientation is complete, meeting the needs of the staff and patients. This position requires the ability to work at least 16 hours a week. There are no benefits associated with this position.
Responsibilities- Each patient has an assigned nurse navigator to oversee their diagnosis and treatment, help them get their needs met, and serve as their personal resource. The nurse navigator expedites and facilitates access to care, personalizes the care, provides a single gateway to minimize confusion, and serves as a consistent contact from diagnosis to survivorship.
- Communication: ensure continuity between patient s care providers (within and outside UNCHCS).
- Nurse Navigator Continuing Education.
- Interviews patients, identifies health problems, assesses compliance with prescribed treatment plans, documents information in the patient s chart, analyzes data to determine nursing care needs including direct care and referrals to other departments; coordinates care for cancer patients; coordinates tests, labs, x-rays; coordinates consults; interacts with referring physician s offices for new and ongoing patient care issues.
- Programmatic Leadership.
- Compassionate with excellent verbal and written communication; strong organizational/prioritization skills; ability to work autonomously and with healthcare teams.
- Preference for candidates with at least 5 years of Oncology experience.
- Basic working knowledge of managed care, insurance coverage, procedures, and community resources (preferred but can be learned).
- Prior Epic experience is helpful but not required.
- Bachelor s degree in Nursing (BSN) or ADN with commitment to enroll in BSN program within 4 years and obtain BSN within 7 years.
- Licensed RN in the state of North Carolina.
- Oncology Nursing Certification (ONC) within two years of employment, maintained thereafter.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider.
- Two years of nursing experience and one year related experience.
