RN – Radiation Oncology Clinic Nurse

Description
This position qualifies for the UNC Hospitals RN Incentive Program, which includes $10,000 for a 3‑year commitment. The role is also eligible for the employee referral program. Experienced RN needed for Radiation Oncology Clinic. Full‑time, Monday‑Friday, Days.

Radiation Oncology Clinic nurses perform a vital role in rooming patients, coordinating care with providers, patient education, weekly nursing assessment for status checks, and addressing patient care needs. The unique oncology population requires specialized oncology experience and skills to adequately address complicated symptom management needs resulting from cancer treatments and other specialized care.

Responsibilities
  • Participate in identifying and meeting learning needs of self, attending education programs, and using patient education materials relevant to the patient population.
  • Identify expected patient outcomes, seek guidance as needed, and participate in interdisciplinary discussions to evaluate patient care.
  • Demonstrate competence in caring for patients with complex problems, including physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety aspects; perform bedside point‑of‑care testing as required.
  • Develop professional growth goals, collaborate with unit goals and performance improvement activities, and promote cost‑effective, safe, clean, and secure care.
  • Recognize data from complex situations to determine priorities for care, include appropriate physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs, and anticipate discharge needs.
  • Collaborate with patient and family to prepare or update the plan of care, using multidisciplinary resources and addressing cultural and ethnic issues.
  • Read relevant journals, bring ideas and questions to staff for applicability to practice.
