Description
The Children's Emergency Response RN role utilizes the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation) to coordinate, delegate and provide safe therapeutic nursing care to pediatric patients throughout the Children's Hospital. As an emergency responder, this nurse will respond (along with the appropriate teams) to Pediatric Rapid Response, Pediatric Code Blue and Pediatric Trauma events with a primary function of collaborating with other disciplines and to provide continuity of patient care.
Activities include, but are not limited to:
- promoting effective team interactions
- facilitating timely assessment and disposition
- transfer of the patient for off unit procedures and between levels of care
Additional responsibilities of the CERT RN is to promote optimal patient outcomes through the safe and effective provision and maintenance of pediatric vascular access.
This includes:
- placement of peripheral venous catheters (with and without ultrasound guidance)
- maintenance, care and troubleshooting of central lines
- education and performance improvement activities as designated by leadership
The ability to apply critical care nursing skills to a broad range of clinical issues, handle multiple complex situations simultaneously and communicate in an effective, positive, and professional manner is essential.
Preference will be given to candidates with:
- 2 years as a Pediatric ICU RN, Pediatric Emergency RN or a combination of both
- PALS, ACLS, ENPC, and TNCC
This is a 36 hour/wk position with a combination of both dayshifts and night shifts.
Some weekends required.

Summary:
Provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. Reporting and accountable to the Nurse Manager/Director, the Clinical Nurse is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process in a hospital setting.
Promotes a safe, clean and secure hospital environment for all.
