PROGRAM

DESCRIPTION:

The UNC Emergency Medicine Scribe program was founded in 2012 to reduce documentation time and increase patient contact. Scribes are trained on medical documentation and ED flow to assist providers with efficiency. Scribes accompany one provider per shift to complete charts and support department flow. Our providers include EM residents, attending physicians, and advanced practice providers (APPs). Scribes work in the UNC Chapel Hill and UNC Hillsborough emergency departments.

MINIMUM COMMITMENT: 12 months

TIME COMMITMENT EXPECTATIONS: Minimum 20 hours per week (shifts vary from 5-10 hours) for at least 12 months, with attendance to scribe meetings (once per month, generally 1 hour). Scribes are expected to work at least 2 overnight shifts per month and at least one on-call shift per month. Scribes may work holidays and must have access to a reliable vehicle for transportation to Hillsborough hospital.

Availability may be submitted monthly; leave requests for longer vacations are allowed. Applicants who can commit to 30-40 hours per week will be given priority and may be eligible for higher hourly compensation.
