Surgical Technologist II - Children's Operating Room - Medical Center Position qualifies for UNC Medical Center Operating Room Incentive Program:

UNC Medical Center Children's OR Six operating suites, averaging 20-25 cases per day Staff able to work in multiple service areas:
Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, ENT, Oral Maxillofacial, Burns, Ophthalmology, General Surgery, Plastics, Urology, Dental Surgery OR uses new, innovative state of the art equipment that reinforces continuous learning opportunities Surgeons, OR staff, Anesthesia team and all ancillary services work together daily to provide high quality care for the most acute pediatric patients in North Carolina. 36 hours/week. Variable shifts. Call hours required, including weekday evenings and weekends.

SummaryThe Surgical Technologist II works under the supervision of a surgeon and registered nurse to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures, ensuring that the operating room environment is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety. Surgical technologists possess expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique and combine the knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation tools and technologies to facilitate a physician's performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.
Performs surgical scrub duties across multiple services. Serves as a resource in at least one service line.
- High School Diploma or GED
- Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology or Nursing Program; or Graduate of a Military Training Program in Surgical Technology; or Formal education/training may be substituted for individuals with 5+ years of prior experience as a surgical tech
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) through The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting or Tech in Surgery (TS-C) through The National Center of Competency Testing
- 3+ years
- Successful completion of service specific portion of the UNC Health Surgical Technologist competencies.
