Acute Care Occupational Therapist Assistant

UNC Hospitals Rehabilitation Services is accepting applications for a full‑time Acute Care Occupational Therapist Assistant. Supporting our Enhanced Rehabilitation program in the acute hospital setting, the OTA will provide skilled therapeutic interventions to a diverse patient population with varying acuity levels. This person will collaborate directly with the interdisciplinary team to provide exceptional patient‑centered care.
OverviewThe OTA will serve as a stakeholder, assisting in the implementation and sustainment of unit‑based care team models to optimize patient care outcomes and best practices. Excellent time management and communication skills are required for this fast‑paced environment; clinical experience in acute care is strongly preferred. A strong work ethic and growth‑oriented mindset are essential characteristics for interested applicants.
Responsibilities- Contribute to interdisciplinary team meetings to plan patient needs, discuss family education plans, and discharge plans.
- Document patient treatment and progress toward goals in the medical record and complete department records for billing and statistics.
- Instruct occupational therapy and occupational therapist assistant students and precept learners per department guidelines.
- Provide skilled occupational therapy treatments to a wide variety of patients, design activities or exercises to meet OT goals, fabricate splints, and teach patients adaptive equipment to increase independence in activities of daily living.
- Facilitate therapeutic groups and instruct patients and families in home techniques for discharge.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and maintain valid records of patient procedures and progress.
- Graduation from an accredited two‑year Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
- Licensed as an Occupational Therapy Assistant in the state of North Carolina.
- Training in acute care rehabilitation and proficiency with splint fabrication and adaptive equipment.
- Strong communication, time‑management, and teamwork skills.
- Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
