Position SummaryReporting to the Health Sciences Library Director, the Head of Health Academic and Research Engagement (HARE) will oversee a department of liaison librarians who support health sciences faculty, students, and researchers. The HARE team includes up to 7 health sciences librarians and 2 part‑time graduate assistants who partner with the Adams School of Dentistry, Eshelman School of Pharmacy, Gillings School of Global Public Health, and UNC School of Nursing.
Responsibilities include course‑ and curriculum‑integrated instruction; curriculum‑planning support; educational programs and workshops; expert literature searching; research support and scholarly communications.
The Head of HARE manages day‑to‑day operations, mentors staff, ensures engagement aligns with priorities of HSL departments and UNC campus units, collaborates with Clinical and Statewide Engagement, Health Research Services, and Research & Instructional Services, and coordinates event programming and outreach.
Minimum Education and Experience- Master’s in Library Science (MLS) or equivalent foreign degree; may substitute advanced degree in the field of specialization.
- ALA‑accredited master’s degree in library or information science or relevant advanced degree.
- Minimum 3 years related professional experience in library, health‑related, or research settings.
- Experience supervising and mentoring staff; commitment to collaborative teamwork.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and coordinate projects with multiple stakeholders.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Experience creating welcoming and inclusive learning and research environments.
- Ability to work effectively with students, faculty, researchers, colleagues, and community members.
- Excellent judgment, organizational, and analytical skills; ability to multitask and set priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Designing, developing, and implementing library services; evaluating and assessing services based on user feedback.
- Interest in evolving landscape of academic libraries; commitment to innovation, flexibility, and adoption of new technologies.
- Experience providing search and knowledge management support for large literature reviews, including systematic reviews.
- Understanding of educational competency requirements in health professions and interprofessional education and practice.
Designated as a Campus Security Authority, required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training.
