The Carolina Institute for Developmental Disabilities (UNC‑CIDD) is seeking fellows for our Postdoctoral Research Training Program in Neurodevelopmental Disorders, funded by the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD). The program emphasizes research training in the biological basis and clinical manifestations of neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs). Since 2001, the T32HD
040127 grant has trained over 65 postdoctoral fellows, many of whom have obtained prestigious NIH K‑awards and other junior faculty awards.
Our mission is to improve the health and well‑being of North Carolinians and others through leadership in patient care, education, and research. We provide innovative clinical care, train tomorrow’s healthcare professionals, and support outstanding research programs across basic, translational, mechanistic, and population research.
Minimum Education and Experience RequirementsPostdoctoral trainees must have received, by the start of the T32 appointment, a Ph.D. (from a basic science or clinical research program), M.D., or a comparable doctoral degree from an accredited domestic or foreign institution. Acceptable degrees include: D.D.S., D.M.D., D.C., D.O., D.V.M., O.D., D.P.M., Sc.D., Eng.
D., Dr. P.H., D.N.Sc., D.P.T., Pharm.
D., N.D., D.S.W., Psy.
D.
Trainees must engage in full‑time research training, dedicating at least 40 hours per week. For clinicians, hours must focus on proposed research training, and any clinical duties must contribute directly to research outcomes. NIH requires that applicants be U.S. citizens, non‑citizen nationals of U.S. territories, or lawful permanent residents. Temporary or student visas are not eligible for NIH NRSA/T32 funding.
Preferred Qualifications , Competencies, and ExperiencePh.D. (from basic science or clinical research programs) and M.D. (including physicians in residency training) trainees are encouraged to apply.

- Review the directory of training grant faculty who are eligible to mentor a T32 fellow and identify a faculty member(s) who agrees to serve as your mentor (or co‑mentors).
- Email the Program Directors, Ben Philpot and Mark Shen (copying the Program Coordinator Angela Cousin) with your CV, proposed mentor(s), and confirmation that you meet the eligibility requirements.
- Develop a research plan together with your mentor(s) to be submitted with the application.

- Include CV, cover letter, and three letters of recommendation in your application.
