Position Summary/Description

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Nursing (UNC‑CH SON) a research‑intensive, top‑ranked school of nursing seeks a dynamic and visionary leader at the associate professor rank and the Assistant Dean for Prelicensure Programs. The faculty appointment includes responsibilities for teaching, scholarship, and service per SON guidelines.

Administrative‑Specific Responsibilities
  • Collaborates with the Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs (SADAA), other administrators, and faculty to provide strategic vision, leadership, planning and ongoing evaluation of the pre‑licensure programs in alignment with the SON Academic Evaluation Plan.
  • In collaboration with SADAA, Division Chairs, and other Assistant Deans, assigns faculty members to teach course sections.
  • Reviews course and instructor evaluations for prelicensure courses and develops improvement plans to ensure program quality and optimal outcomes.
  • In collaboration with the Academic Affairs Council, Baccalaureate Executive Committee, and pre‑licensure program directors, coordinates systems for managing the prelicensure programs course offerings, review of new proposals, class schedules, student advising, and standardized examinations.
  • Responsible for the appointment and evaluation of Program Directors to align with existing job descriptions. Mentorship of Program Directors and delegation of duties to support leadership development and workload balance.
  • Represents the Prelicensure Programs with internal and external communities of interest, including the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
  • Works with key participants in the prelicensure program to resolve faculty issues.
  • Leads one meeting per month of the prelicensure affiliated faculty.
  • In collaboration with the Clinical Support Division, ensures faculty are compliant with clinical requirements in external agencies.
  • Approves and monitors the prelicensure program of study and honors projects.
  • Serves as the administrative liaison to the Baccalaureate Executive Committee (BEC) and facilitates implementation of BEC decisions.
  • Works with the Office of Student Affairs to facilitate efforts to secure grant funding for student scholarships, student support, and program enhancements.
  • Collaborates with the Office of Student Affairs to facilitate prelicensure student recruitment, admissions, progression, graduation, and financial aid programs.
  • Coordinates the collection and analysis of data used by BEC to evaluate the quality, efficiency, and effectiveness of the pre‑licensure program and ensures that the policies and standards of the School of Nursing, the University, the North Carolina Board of Nursing and accrediting agencies are met.
  • Manages, evaluates, and seeks continuous improvement of the process of clinical site coordination for prelicensure student placements.
  • With input from the program directors, evaluates performance of prelicensure part‑time faculty and assures accountability in faculty's fulfillment of their academic responsibilities in teaching.
  • Provides input on teaching needs of the School for use by search committees.
  • Leads recruitment efforts for part‑time, clinical track appointments for prelicensure program faculty.
  • Serves as program director with the North Carolina Board of Nursing to ensure compliance with 21 NCAC 36.0318 requirement, certify students for eligibility to write the NCLEX‑RN examination and to provide data needed for annual and periodic reports.
  • Represents the School of Nursing as Director of Undergraduate Studies, including participating in Directors meetings and annual updating of the Undergraduate Catalog.
  • Provides leadership and mentoring for succession planning.
  • Accountable for recruitment, hiring, management and performance evaluation of program support staff, including the prelicensure program manager and nurse specialists.
