Mi Escuelita Spanish Immersion Preschool seeks an Assistant Director to work alongside the Director in leading its preschool and childcare program. This is a full‑time position located in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
Mi Escuelita’s mission is to provide high‑quality Spanish immersion education in a safe, fun, diverse, and nurturing environment, to be a workplace where staff can grow and thrive, and to prepare students to contribute to a community in which Latinx and Hispanic cultures are honored and celebrated.
Responsibilities- Provide daily support to ensure a safe environment and high educational quality in accordance with state licensing requirements and Mi Escuelita’s mission.
- Assist the Director in developing and executing a theme‑based educational program that supports children’s care, growth, and development.
- Stepping into classrooms to assist or fill in for teachers as needed (approximately half of the time weekly).
- Help develop curricula for students and work with the Director and Board of Directors to implement policies, priorities, projects, programs, and budgets.
- Oversee school’s materials management, maintain a current inventory of supplies, and supervise proper use of materials in each classroom.
- Assist the Director in maintaining licensing and documentation requirements, including children and staff files, staff scheduling, center sanitation, and meal service.
- Act as an authorized proxy to sign all classes of documents and checks and make emergency decisions as necessary.
- Build good communication with staff, attend pre‑service and in‑service training, and pursue professional development in early childhood education and Spanish immersion methods.
- Observe the center’s discipline policy and attend training workshops and conferences that enhance early childhood education.
- Minimum two years of experience working in a licensed childcare center.
- Bachelor’s Degree, Associate in Early Childhood Education, or CDA preferred.
- Infant & Toddler Care (Required);
Early Childhood
Education:
2 years (Required);
Teaching: 2 years (Required). - Knowledge of early childhood development principles and practices, including creating classroom routines, effective group management, and facilitating smooth transitions.
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with children, families, and colleagues.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine love for working with young children.
- Fluent Spanish speaker and proficient or fluent English speaker with life experience in Latin American culture.
- EDU‑119 Certification or willingness to take the course within the first 6 months of employment.
- NC Child Care Administration certified (preferred).
- Current CPR and First Aid certificate within 6 months of employment.
- Fully vaccinated against COVID‑19.
