Position Summary

The Division of Hematology-Oncology at the University of North Carolina is seeking a full-time, open rank tenure/tenure track physician-scientist to contribute to the division’s research mission in laboratory or clinical research and to provide clinical care to our patients. The faculty member will be appointed to the G. Denman Hammon Professorship in Childhood Cancer. The responsibilities of this position will be shared between research and clinical commitments.

The candidate will lead and administer an independent research program. Joint appointment to a basic science department or graduate curriculum may be available based on research and teaching interests. The selected applicant will also be involved in the education mission of the institution with opportunities to teach postdoctoral clinical and research fellows, residents, and medical and graduate students. The candidate will provide coverage on our inpatient hematology-oncology unit.

Preference will be given to candidates with a history of independent funding and a long-term commitment to research and teaching.

Minimum Education And Experience Requirements

The position requires a professional medical degree, completion of a three-year advanced fellowship training in pediatric hematology-oncology, American Board of Pediatrics certification or eligibility in pediatric hematology-oncology, and eligibility for a North Carolina license to practice medicine.

Preferred Qualifications , Competencies, And Experience

Applicants whose research has focused on the pathophysiological basis of childhood cancers, therapeutic development, or genetic or environmental associations are especially encouraged to apply.
