Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit: UNC Continuing Dental Education is committed to providing quality programs featuring the latest advances in science and technology that allow all dental professionals to stay current with new knowledge and innovations in the field of dentistry. The mission of the Office of Continuing Dental Education (CDE) is to improve the knowledge base and advance the practice of dentistry through quality educational activities.
By offering activities that feature current research in science and technology, we help dentists and dental team members advance their knowledge and skills and promote innovations in the field. The Office of CDE serves a global constituency, including Adams School of Dentistry faculty, staff, and dental professionals in North Carolina, the nation, and beyond. The Adams School of Dentistry, established in 1950 and made possible by an Act of the North Carolina General Assembly in 1949, is now part of a dynamic Health Science campus!
The school provides oral health care to more than 90,000 patients each year! With more than 6,400 living alumni in 27 nations and all 50 states, the school’s impact to oral health in North Carolina, throughout the U.S., and around the world is unprecedented. Adams School of Dentistry is at the forefront of oral health care, education, research, and leadership.

The ASOD consists of seven (7) Academic Departments:
Biomedical Sciences, Craniofacial and Surgical Care, Restorative Sciences, Pediatric Dentistry and Dental Public Health, Orthodontics, Diagnostic Sciences, and Periodontology, Endodontics and Dental Hygiene.
