Primary Purpose Of Organizational Unit The UNC Adams School of Dentistry Division of Comprehensive Oral Health houses several disciplines including Periodontology, Dental Hygiene, Comprehensive Dentistry, Operative Dentistry/Bio Materials, Prosthodontics, and Endodontics. The Periodontology discipline focuses on the prevention and treatment of gum disease, as well as the management of gum and tissue inflammation resulting from existing dental conditions.
Position Summary The Medical Support Technician will provide clinical support to our faculty providers, residents, dental assistants and hygienists. Tasks include but are not limited to: routine assembling and preparing supplies and instruments needed for procedures; performing sterilization according to OSHA standards; infection control; organization and inventory of supplies; maintaining dental equipment and medical supplies; cleaning operating room settings as needed.
When needed this position will assist the existing front desk personnel with their duties under their supervision.
Minimum Education And Experience Requirements Completion of an accredited training program in the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. Some positions may require additional training, certifications, or licensure.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, And Experience Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with, and exercise, tact and diplomacy with a wide variety of individuals (including staff, students, graduate residents and faculty). Flexible in working in different specialty clinics (Pediatrics, Periodontology, Prosthodontics, Endodontics, Dental Faculty Practice, Operative, and General Dentistry). Able to work on multiple projects simultaneously and thrive in a fast‑paced environment while delivering high‑level customer service.
Strong professionalism and excellent interpersonal skills are essential, as is the ability to change tasks frequently.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, And Experience Demonstrated experience working in a team environment, and providing support in a clinical setting. Some coursework or clinical training in a medical or dental setting.
