Job Description
The incumbent under the direction of the Driver Supervisor provides the residents of Fort Smith with reliable, economical, efficient, and safe transportation around the City of Fort Smith.

All City of Fort Smith positions require the employee to provide good customer service to both internal and external customers, maintain positive and effective working relationships with other City employees, and have regular and reliable attendance that is non‑disruptive. Education and/or Experience Transit Driver I- High school diploma or G.E.D. is required.
- Must hold a Class “B” CDL with air brakes and passenger endorsement and a DOT Medical Certificate or be able to obtain one.
- A minimum of two‑week training period to familiarize new employees with their route, paperwork, disability procedures, etc.
- Same as above.
- Must have two (2) or more years of experience.
Skills and Abilities
The incumbent should possess good verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Must be proficient in proper radio terms and be familiar with city roads. Emergency procedures, first aid and CPR training is also required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must frequently sit; use hands to handle objects and reach with hands and arms and talk.
Occasionally the employee is required to stand and walk. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, color, peripheral, and distance vision. The ability to adjust focus and depth perception is also required. The employee is occasionally required to lift up to 50 pounds.

While performing the duties of this position the employee is occasionally required to work in wet, humid conditions; work near moving mechanical parts and is exposed to fumes, airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals.
The employee is also exposed to outdoor weather conditions and is at risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
