Purpose:

The Classroom Instructor creates a positive learning environment to facilitate the physical, mental and social development of students. In order to respond to the individual needs and abilities of students, the classroom instructor must work closely with other staff and administration of U.S.D. No. 413

Qualifications
  • Current Kansas State Teaching Certificate on file in the central office.
  • Health and inoculation certificate on file in the Central Office (after employment offer is made).
  • Desire to continue career improvement.
  • Working knowledge of Outcome Based Education and Effective Schools' principles.
Essential Functions & General Responsibilities
  • Facilitate the personal, social and intellectual development of Students
  • Establish a positive learning environment and respond to the individual needs of students.
  • Ensure that all activities conform to district guidelines.
  • Communicate effectively with members of the school district and community.
  • Work effectively with community organizations.
  • React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.
  • Support the value of an education.
  • Support the philosophy and mission of U.S.D. No. 413.
  • Support the District's Quality Performance Accreditation efforts and activities.
  • Observe established duty hours of the school day. Be present in the classroom during assigned times. Be available to students before and after school to provide help for students. Attend all building, district, and curriculum meetings as required
  • Plan and implement effective lessons, using time, materials, and resources effectively.
  • Motivate students through effective communication and evaluative feedback.
  • Display a thorough knowledge of curriculum and subject matter.
  • Demonstrate effective implementation of the District's outcome based education curriculum.
  • Demonstrate awareness of the needs of students and provide for individual differences.
  • Set high expectations for student achievement and behavior.
  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal relations with others.
  • Establish and maintain a positive climate for learning through appropriate classroom management.
  • Maintain current curriculum and instructional practices.
  • Coordinate and supervise field trips.
  • Assist with and supervise activities of students during extra-curricular activities. (Re: Negotiated Agreement)
  • Attend and assist when necessary with school events such as musical programs, athletics, student recognition ceremonies, graduation, and open house. (Re: Negotiated Agreement)
  • See that district policies are observed during all activities.
  • Obtain advance approval of the principal for all activities and expenditures. Turn in to the principal requisitions outlining all materials and supplies necessary to carry out class objectives.
  • Adhere to all district health and safety policies, including all precautions of the blood borne pathogens exposure control plan.
  • Other duties as assigned by the principal or other administrative staff. (Re: Negotiated Agreement)
Physical Requirements
  • Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
  • Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials.
  • Occasional stooping, bending, and reaching.
  • Must work indoors and outdoors year-round.
  • Must work in noisy and crowded environments.
