Job Description & How to Apply Below
Red Gate Group's Engineering Solutions team builds internal software that automates workflows across recruiting, program management, proposal development, and government service delivery - with a goal of productizing the best tools commercially. The team is small and early-stage; you will work directly alongside developers on real features that ship in support of Red Gate Group's experienced team of program managers, consultants, and leadership.
This is a hands-on coding internship. You will write code, test it, break it, and fix it on projects that matter to the business. Work touches, but is not limited to, three primary technical domains. You do not need deep experience in all three, but you need to be able to learn quickly across them:
• Compliance and document automation
• AI/LLM-assisted workflow tools
• Internal tooling and systems integration WHAT YOU'LL CONTRIBUTE Compliance and Document Automation Write scripts and application components that parse documents, extract structured data, and validate it against defined rule sets. Think: reading a resume, pulling out relevant fields, and checking them against a requirements list. You will work from defined specifications; a developer will own the architecture. Your job is clean implementation, good test coverage, and clear documentation of edge cases you find.
AI/LLM-Assisted Workflow Tools Write code that calls LLM APIs (Llama, Gemini, ChatGPT, or similar), formats prompts, processes outputs, and integrates results into larger workflows. You will work from prompt designs and pipeline specs established with developers. Expect to spend real time on output validation - LLMs are unreliable in ways that require systematic testing, not just eyeballing results. Internal Tooling and Systems Integration Build scripts and lightweight application components that connect internal platforms via API, automate repetitive data tasks, or surface operational data in dashboards.
These are typically smaller, well-defined projects. You will own them more independently, with code review from developers. RESPONSIBILITIES
• Write clean, tested, documented code on assigned features
• Test your own work thoroughly; document behavior, inputs, outputs, and known limitations
• Flag ambiguities and blockers early rather than building on bad assumptions
• Participate in team check-ins; communicate progress and obstacles clearly
• Participate in team rituals supporting our software development framework: daily standups, backlog grooming, and reviews
• Learn relevant domain context (federal contracting basics, government data handling norms) as needed - you will be supported in this Depending on team priorities, work may also include:
• Researching and documenting emerging AI tools and technologies to inform adoption decisions across the company
• Producing training or knowledge-sharing materials that help non-technical staff understand and use new AI-enabled tools
