Position Overview

The Database Developer - Subject Matter Expert (SME) provides senior-level technical leadership in the architecture, development, optimization, security, and sustainment of complex enterprise database systems supporting mission-critical federal programs. This role is responsible for ensuring the availability, integrity, security, and performance of highly sensitive data environments while leading cloud modernization and enterprise data initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide expert-level support for enterprise database operations, monitoring, troubleshooting, and performance optimization.
  • Architect, implement, and maintain highly available, secure database environments and associated storage platforms.
  • Perform server and storage capacity planning for mission-critical systems.
  • Lead database optimization, tuning, and large-scale data load and extraction efforts.
  • Install, configure, and maintain on-premise and cloud-based database environments.
  • Perform database backups, restores, archiving, and disaster recovery operations.
  • Design, implement, and enforce database security controls, access management, and auditing.
  • Recommend and implement improvements to change management and configuration management processes.
  • Support cloud migration and modernization initiatives for legacy systems.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation and system architecture artifacts.
Required Qualifications
  • Active TS/SCI with FSP
  • Bachelor's degree with 8+ years of relevant experience
  • Expert-level experience supporting enterprise Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server environments.
  • Experience designing and implementing enterprise relational database architectures.
  • Strong knowledge of UNIX and Windows operating systems.
  • Experience with data modeling tools (e.g., ERwin, IBM Rational Data Architect, Visual Paradigm).
  • Experience implementing secure backup, recovery, and continuity of operations procedures.
  • Demonstrated experience optimizing performance of large-scale, mission-critical databases.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting classified federal programs.
  • Cloud database migration and modernization experience.
  • High-availability architecture and enterprise storage management experience.
  • Experience with change and configuration management leadership.
  • Experience mentoring or leading database engineering teams.
  • Experience developing database applications and stored procedures using C, Visual Basic, Prolog, or REXX.
