Description

The Resident Engineer (RE) position is a post-sales role that is customer facing, representing Nokia Federal Solutions (NFS) to government customers. The RE role will support customer testing and ongoing operations and perform Proof of Concepts (PoCs)/demos. We are looking for an RE, who has extensive hands‑on experience in IP/MPLS, with configuration knowledge of the Nokia IP routing portfolio.

  • Work independently, and as a team member; act as the technical lead when dealing with customers.
  • Energetic, results‑oriented, and a self‑starter.
  • Share knowledge with customers on operational and troubleshooting of Nokia’s router solutions.
  • Lead design discussions with the customer on NFS’s behalf and consult with CSAs for design validations.
  • Engage in the day‑to‑day activities of the customer as related to Nokia products and services.
  • Produce and deliver product configuration based on pre‑defined network designs.
  • Produce detailed Network Migration Services (Method of Procedure [MOP]) to support our customer’s requirements.
  • Act as on‑site technical prime/Subject Matter Expert (SME) in IP/MPLS; engage customers, present viable technical solutions, and articulate their value to our customers.
  • Act as on‑site technical prime for validating/supporting automated service creations and report generation tools.
  • Assist with design documentation, training documentation, and various customer‑facing documents.
  • Conduct knowledge sharing with the customer.
  • Work closely with customers to test, design, and plan for network deployments and live migrations of customer traffic on IP/MPLS equipment.
  • Operate test equipment (e.g., IXIA/Spirent) for L2 and L3 scenarios.
  • Design service for/upgrade/configure Nokia’s IP/MPLS products.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with customer’s technical teams.
  • Develop and maintain in‑depth technical and marketing knowledge of key Nokia IP product lines.
  • Work directly with end customers and in a consultative manner with product support teams, regional customer support teams, the R&D organization, and pre‑sales (Customer Solutions Architect [CSA]) teams to deliver projects.
  • Contribute to the creation of customer network evolution plans, and actively position our technology strategy, solutions, and products to address customer needs.
  • Facilitate Nokia product ticket resolution created by customer by working with Nokia’s Technical Support organization.
  • Address complex technical risks (e.g., product roadmap availability) with mitigation plans and solutions that generate solid business impact.
  • Work with customers on Proof of Concepts (PoCs), trials, demos, etc., and provide first‑level support in event of configuration questions.
Travel

This position will require travel, 10% to 20% of the time.

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field or equivalent experience.
  • At least 10 years’ experience in an IP/MPLS focused, customer‑facing post‑sale role (or consulting systems engineer, technical marketing engineer, etc.) in the telecom industry, government, or equivalent military experience.
  • Detailed understanding of IP/MPLS technology and network implementation in a Service Provider (SP) environment.
  • Knowledge and experience of configuring EVPN, specifically EVPN‑MPLS.
  • Knowledge and experience of configuring Segment Routing (SR), specifically SR‑MPLS and ideally SRv

  • Hands‑on knowledge of Nokia IP routing portfolio (SR OS); ability to configure/troubleshoot the equipment, including relevant certification (SRA/NRSII).
  • Hands‑on knowledge of competitor’s IP/MPLS routing products (Cisco/Juniper/Arista); ability to configure/troubleshoot the equipment (CCIE‑SP, JNCIP‑SP) would be beneficial.
  • Secret level security clearance, or the ability to obtain one.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
