Schedule / Shift: Wednesday – Sunday | 7:00 PM – 3:30 AM (EST) — Evening/Night Shift. Flexibility required for weekends, holidays, on-call, and overtime based on staffing needs.

Job Description: The Specimen Processing Technician I (SPT I) supports the Specimen Processing Department by performing essential pre-analytical laboratory functions. This role requires a strong data entry background, attention to detail, and the ability to adapt quickly in a high-volume, production-driven environment. The SPT I plays a critical role in maintaining quality, compliance, and customer satisfaction, while working safely in a biohazard laboratory setting.

• Perform specimen processing functions including A-station, presort, pickup/delivery, imaging, centrifugation, and aliquoting
• Accurately enter data at a rate of 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour
• Learn and understand specimen types related to ordered laboratory tests
• Maintain compliance with test-ordering regulations that may change daily
• Meet departmental productivity, quality, and turnaround-time standards
• Work confidently and accurately in a biohazard environment
• Maintain a clean and organized work area
• Communicate effectively with all levels of staff
• Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Strong data entry and computer skills
• Ability to sit or stand for extended periods
• Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
• Ability to work accurately in a fast-paced production environment
• Effective written and verbal communication skills

• Previous laboratory or specimen processing experience
• Medical background with clinical laboratory terminology
• Prior experience in a hospital or production laboratory environment
