Job DescriptionPerform a vital part of the patient care process by examining prepared slides with a microscope to detect evidence of abnormalities. Report negative Pap Test cases and refer abnormal cases to the pathologists for review. You may also read Non-GYN specimens and report findings to the pathologists for final diagnosis. Document the total number of slides examined or reviewed and the number of hours spent examining slides each day.
Work in a fast-paced laboratory environment while championing safety, compliance, and quality control.
- Examine prepared slides using a microscope to detect abnormalities.
- Report negative Pap Test cases and refer abnormal cases to pathologists.
- Read Non-GYN specimens and report findings to pathologists for final diagnosis.
- Document the total number of slides examined daily.
- Document the number of hours spent examining slides each day.
- Maintain quality, efficiency, and safety in laboratory functions.
- Assist with procedure development and problem resolution.
- Take on additional responsibilities when appropriate.
- ASCP certification required as a Cytotechnologist.
- Thinprep Certification required.
- 2+ years of laboratory training or experience.
Skills & Qualifications
- Surepath Certification preferred.
- 2-3 years of experience preferred but not required.
Work in a fast-paced laboratory setting with the opportunity to gain experience with new digital equipment like the Genius Digital Diagnostics System. Enjoy strong independence and minimal supervision, ideal for someone looking to transition from a hospital setting. Work hours are Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 4:30 PM, with potential flexibility to start at 9 AM after the training period.
Occasionally, weekend work may be required, but this is rare. The role offers the chance to work with both traditional manual screening and cutting‑edge digital technology.
This is a Permanent position based out of Chantilly, VA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $83000.00 - $104000.00/yr.
