What You’ll DoThe State Income Tax Manager will provide a variety of tax consulting, planning, and compliance services to a diverse range of clients operating in various sectors. You will oversee state-level tax projects, including compliance and related research, and lead and direct a team in managing state tax compliance and advisory services for clients. EY’s Tax practice is evolving; you will grow by taking on new skills and responsibilities with mentors and training programs.
Responsibilities- Oversee state-level tax projects, including compliance and related research.
- Lead or direct a team in managing state tax compliance and advisory services for clients.
- Manage and execute state income tax compliance responsibilities.
- Monitor and analyze changes in state income tax laws and regulations and determine impact to the client.
- Provide complex tax review, research, planning and consulting services to diverse clients, including federal and state tax regulations.
- Lead or assist with various tax planning, research, and special projects.
- Prepare and review quarterly and annual state income tax provisions.
- Model state income tax benefits and consequences using Microsoft Excel, Power
BI or Alteryx. - Write tax technical memos to articulate issues, conclusions, and analyses on state tax issues.
- Develop and mentor staff to foster a collaborative team environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related discipline; approximately six years of related experience.
- High level of proficiency in state income tax code, regulations, and procedures.
- Proven track record in a professional services or tax organization.
- Technical writing and research experience in a tax context.
- Ability to analyze client data, provide guidance, and make recommendations to engagement teams.
- Ability to prioritize multiple complex projects.
- Strong influencing skills and the confidence to question existing processes.
- Willingness to travel as needed and comfortable in a balanced hybrid environment.
- CPA qualification (achieved or partially achieved), certification as a member of the Institute for Professionals in Taxation, or ability to sit for/be a member of a state bar.
