An established engineering organization is seeking a seasoned Senior Civil Engineer to serve in a Project Management capacity. This role is based in Chantilly, Virginia and offers the opportunity to lead a wide range of site development projects across both public and private sectors. The position involves close coordination with municipal agencies and project stakeholders, providing exposure to diverse markets and project types while contributing to meaningful infrastructure development.
Position OverviewThe successful candidate will oversee complex, multi-discipline projects from concept through construction. Responsibilities will leverage strong technical expertise, leadership capabilities, and communication skills. Projects will include site planning and design efforts incorporating essential infrastructure systems such as stormwater management, drainage, and erosion and sediment control. The role also includes regulatory coordination, feasibility evaluations, and development approvals.
Key Responsibilities- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, including oversight of schedules, budgets, and deliverables
- Serve as a primary point of contact for clients and regulatory authorities to ensure clear communication and project alignment
- Develop proposals and fee estimates for new and repeat work
- Direct the preparation of land development plans, including engineering drawings, specifications, and technical reports through all project phases
- Coordinate and submit permit applications and development packages for regulatory review and approval
- Participate in meetings with municipalities, agencies, and planning or zoning boards
- Delegate and oversee work assigned to design engineers and technical staff, providing guidance in stormwater design, utility coordination, and erosion and sediment control strategies
- Perform additional duties as required to support project and organizational goals
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field
- At least 9 years of professional engineering experience, with a strong background in land development
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in the Commonwealth of Virginia
- Demonstrated experience managing projects and/or teams, particularly on multi-discipline efforts
- Background working on both redevelopment (brownfield) and undeveloped (greenfield) sites
- Advanced knowledge of site design, including grading, utilities, stormwater management, erosion control, and land-use approvals
- Experience developing stormwater management solutions and using hydrology and hydraulics modeling software (e.g., Hydro
CAD, Hydraflow, or similar tools) - Proficiency with engineering and CADD software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D
- Strong working knowledge of standard office and project management software (e.g., Microsoft Office 365)
- Ability to think strategically, balancing big-picture project objectives with detailed technical execution
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills
- Proven ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment while remaining self-directed
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
