Ten miles from the SAIC headquarters, our Chantilly, VA team supports systems development, targeting & intelligence analysis, systems engineering & integration and more.
This position is for a System Engineer for a large contract supporting a cutting‑edge and innovative space program. The System Engineer oversees contractor progress in spacecraft system development, implementation, and operation. This position provides support to the customer’s execution of the Program with responsibilities that may include, but are not limited to the following:
Role Responsibilities- Oversee prime contractor development and ensure systems meet customer requirements, risk tolerance, budget, and schedule, while assessing technical solutions and recommending Courses of Action (COA).
- Work closely with a multidisciplinary team including hardware and software, to ensure system integration and mission success. Foster communication and alignment among team members to identify challenges and corresponding solutions.
- Evaluate prime contractor performance at milestone reviews by analyzing compliance with technical requirements, and quality of deliverables. Offer recommendations to improve project outcomes and likelihood of success.
- Identify and manage risks throughout the system engineering lifecycle by conducting risk assessments, developing mitigation strategies, and monitoring potential impacts on mission objectives.
- Participate in key operation events, providing on‑console monitoring of spacecraft health and safety.
- In event of spacecraft operational anomalous behavior, work with a team to ensure the spacecraft is in a maintainable safe state, contribute to diagnosing cause of anomalous behavior, assess spacecraft functionality to return to nominal operation and assist in recovery, or assist in actions to decommission the spacecraft.
- Must possess an active TS/SCI clearance with Polygraph.
- BS or MS degree in Engineering, 18 years with a Bachelor's; 16 years with Masters.
- System engineering experience in spacecraft design, development, and implementation.
- Working technical knowledge of all spacecraft subsystems, integration, and interactions.
- Experience with ground integration testing and check‑out of spacecraft nominal functionality.
- Facility in on‑console monitoring of spacecraft testing and verifying correct functionality of subsystems and integrated system.
- Experience in design, development, and implementation of at least one spacecraft subsystem.
- Aerospace engineer with detailed technical expertise in at least one spacecraft subsystem and working familiarity of all subsystems.
- At least 6 years working experience on a Government or Commercial satellite program that encompasses some of the life cycle phases such as design development, design implementation and verification, system integration and test, and operations.
