Summary
The Diesel Technician is responsible for the inspection, service, repair and preventative maintenance of the various types of ATS tractors by using ATS and industry‑standard Raster methods and criteria to ensure the tractor is safe to be on the road.
Education and Experience – Level 3
Two‑year AAS Degree in a medium/heavy truck diesel program and/or at least one year of equivalent experience in a related field (e.g., automotive, medium/heavy equipment, trailer repair, etc.).Must be DOT certified or obtain certification within 90 days.Must have brake certification or obtain it within 90 days.Must have OSHA tire training or obtain it within a year.Must have forklift certification or obtain it within 90 days.Must be able to operate all related shop equipment.Working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) required.Effective communication skills (written, listening, verbal).Good decision‑making, problem‑solving, attention to detail, and customer service skills (internal/external).Basic electrical troubleshooting skills.Ability to read installation manuals and understand manufacturer training.Level 2 – Additional Requirements (in addition to Level
3)
At least five years of equivalent experience in a related field.ASE Certifications T4 & T8 within 1 year of hire date.Must be DOT Certified.MIG welding ability.Intermediate electrical diagnostic skills.Familiarity with all diagnostic software programs.Level 1 – Additional Requirements (in addition to Levels 2 &
3)
Minimum seven years of equivalent experience in a related field.ASE Certifications Master T2‑T8 within 1 year of hire date.Advanced electrical diagnostic skills.Proficiency with all diagnostic software programs.Experience with warranty submission.Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Perform inspections wedge company tractors using ATS, DOT, and OSHA guidelines to ensure safe operation.Complete DOT inspections on outgoing trucks to verify all necessary repairs have been made.Perform repairs following ATS procedures within standard job times to get drivers back on the road as soon as possible.Conduct all scheduled/necessary preventive maintenance (oil, grease, air filters, cooling system checks, water filters, etc.).Diagnose and repair electronic control engines.Ensure safety procedures are implemented and followed, and wear required PPE at all times.Record all parts and repair work in a computer system to track repair costs.Meet productivity standards.Participate in online OEM training (e.g., After Market Resource from Freightliner) and hands‑on training provided by OEM and factory.Supply basic tools; ATS provides specialty tools.Meet all ATS and department objectives and deadlines.Follow all ATS and department policies and procedures.Work within the department’s budget.Charge out all parts used on trucks and trailers.Support ATS’s culture; consistently perform according to the company’s core competencies and behaviors.Work occasional overtime, Saturdays, and other shift vacancies as needed.Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.Physical Demands
