Barge Mechanic - United Engines

Keep all Kirby Inland Marine barges operational in a safe and cost-effective manner.

• Perform routine maintenance on barges, including regular inspection and preventive maintenance of all barge operating equipment.
• Drive company vehicle to barge location, review open barge work order listings, and complete identified items as necessary; communicate any problems or remaining items back to the Barge Planner.
• Complete inspection and work order reports to document findings and completed repairs.
• Use working knowledge of all aspects of barge operating systems to perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs.
• Use normal hand tools and certain special repair tools; lift and carry up to 50 lbs; climb aboard, maneuver around vessels, handle tight spaces, climb 90‑degree vertical ladders, and bend/crawl as required.
• Maintain a valid Texas driver’s license.

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Minimum 2 years mechanical experience on vessels and barges.
• Good communication skills.
• Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds; climb 90‑degree vertical ladders; move around tight spaces.

Basic five days a week, eight hour a day schedule with some overtime; weekend on‑call rotation in conjunction with port engineer.
