Environmental Health and Safety Manager

Job Summary

The EHS Manager at our Norwood facility will plan, implement, and coordinate a safety program to reduce occupational injuries and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations on air, water, and waste disposal.

Responsibilities
  • Develop, conduct, and oversee safety awareness training for employees.
  • Implement safety and environmental policies and procedures to comply with corporate, state, and federal regulations.
  • Conduct monthly safety and ergonomic inspections and follow up on recommended improvements.
  • Prepare and coordinate emergency planning for fire, severe weather, hazardous material spills, etc.
  • Monitor and verify environmental permits and fees required by regulatory agencies.
  • Maintain files, documentation, and submit reports for required permits such as Air Quality, Hazardous Waste, EPA, Workers Compensation, MPCA, PSM, OSHA, and MNOSHA.
  • Coordinate Workers Compensation in conjunction with the return-to-work policy and employee’s return to work with supervisor, employee, and Human Resources.
  • Coordinate activities related to OSHA, MNOSHA, and insurance carrier inspections.
  • Operate and manage the water and wastewater treatment facility, including ordering, application, and inventory of chemicals.
  • Manage and train employees to meet all PSM/RMP requirements for ammonia according to state and federal statutes.
  • Manage plant hazardous waste storage and disposal, including proper labeling, marking, and inspection requirements.
  • Lead investigation of accidents, injuries, and close calls and cooperate in evidence collection or organizations if hearings are necessary.
  • Prepare job-safety analysis to identify safety hazards or potential safety conditions.
  • Coordinate monthly safety meetings and assist supervisors and managers with monthly reporting.
  • Collect, test, and prepare wastewater and water samples for further testing to our facility lab and an outside independent lab.
  • Conduct new employee safety orientation.
Qualifications
  • Water/Wastewater Operators license and Hazardous Waste Training Certification for VSQG.
  • Knowledge of applicable MPCA, OSHA, and MNOSHA regulations.
  • Minimum 2 years related experience in wastewater and safety.
  • Educational background in chemistry and biology.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication.
  • Study and stay abreast of all changes in local, state, and federal programs and regulations.
  • Lifting up to 75 lbs. occasionally.
