Overview
OverviewThe City of Chanhassen's Playground Program Coordinator is responsible for the management, supervision, coordination, and evaluation of the Summer Discovery Playground Program, Lake Ann Adventure Camp, and other summer youth programs. This seasonal position is an integral part of the Parks & Recreation team and manages the day-to-day operations of both programs with a high degree of independence. The Playground Program Coordinator is responsible for the training, supervision, and evaluation of 12 seasonal camp staff.
Responsibilities- Staff Training. Under the supervision of the Recreation Manager, develop and lead initial season training for 12 seasonal camp staff. Plan and conduct weekly staff meetings, check-ins, special program/event trainings, and coach individual staff members as needed.
- Staff Supervision & Evaluation. Directly supervise 12 seasonal camp staff. Provide schedules, approve vacation requests, provide feedback, and conduct mid-season and end-of-season evaluations.
- Communication with Parents & Guardians. Communicate daily and weekly with parents of the Summer Discovery Playground Program (450 youth participants) and Lake Ann Adventure Camp (240 youth participants). Respond to parent inquiries, send weekly newsletters, communicate relevant program information, and provide excellent customer service.
- Program Logistics. Manage supply requests and purchasing, oversee program budgets, supervise curriculum development and implementation, and document and track daily incident reports.
- Program Evaluation. Evaluate current program offerings and curriculum and provide recommendations for future improvements.
- Special Events. Provide special event training and supervision for seasonal staff members at the annual 4th of July Celebration. Assist Parks & Recreation Intern in event logistics and management.
The Playground Program Coordinator works primarily Monday-Friday, 40 hours per week. This position will run from late May to mid-August.
Required QualificationsCandidates must be a college graduate or current student and have excellent communication, organizational, and customer service skills. Park & Leisure Studies degree or field of study preferred, but not required. Prior experience in recreation services, youth programming, and/or customer service preferred, but not required. Candidates MUST be available to work July 2-4.
Desired QualificationsPrior experience working with youth programs or youth program administration. Prior experience supervising staff or volunteers. This position is not benefit eligible.
