Job DescriptionTranslate business needs and questions into technical solutions; use Business Intelligence (BI) tools to create report and query objects; provide BI tools support to business users; serve as a liaison between the business organization and the BI technology team.
Essential Duties- Receives report requests, evaluates requirements, and recommends existing or new solutions.
- Creates reports and data products.
- Assists customers with information needs through understanding of data and metadata content.
- Identifies and assesses potential data sources.
- Elicits requirements using interviews, requirements meetings, survey, document analysis, site visits, business process descriptions, use cases, scenario, and workflow analysis.
- Assist with prototype creation, coordinate prototype reviews.
- Works with developers/architects to translate requirements into a technical solution.
- Assist with creating and delivering end-user training and documentation.
- Works closely and cooperatively with development teams on product design; makes recommendation for change to enhance support and usability.
- Participates in system administration functions including data validation processes, duplicate resolution processes, system change request and system integration/user acceptance testing to ensure ongoing integrity and security of data consistent with university policies and procedures.
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Business Analytics, Information Systems, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related discipline, consistent with common BI analyst preparation pathways.
- Foundational understanding of business operations and financial concepts to support budget, finance, and administrative decision‑making.
- Basic to intermediate proficiency in SQL for data extraction, querying, and transformation.
- Experience using data visualization and dashboarding tools such as Power BI or Tableau to build clear, user‑friendly reports.
- Strong working knowledge of Excel.
- Exposure to data warehouses, reporting environments, or enterprise systems (e.g., ERP, HRIS, student or finance systems).
- Ability to perform descriptive statistical analysis, identify trends, and interpret data in support of operational and financial questions.
- Demonstration of skills related to data validation, data quality, and documentation of data sources and definitions.
- Capacity to translate data into clear, concise insights for stakeholders in finance, administration, and academic units.
- Exposure to common university data systems (e.g., data warehouses), or demonstrated ability to quickly learn new enterprise systems.
- Strong communication abilities, including explaining data findings to non‑technical audiences and working effectively with cross‑functional teams.
- Ability to gather requirements from stakeholders, document needs, and support development of BI solutions under guidance from more senior analysts.
- Demonstrated organization skills and adaptability in a fast‑paced environment with shifting priorities typical of institutional support roles.

- Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse (75%); frequently required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work (25%). Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds. Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
