Job Description
American Traveler is seeking a skilled ICU RN with at least 3 years of recent ICU experience, including either neuro or cardiovascular, for a Level 1 trauma acute care assignment.
Responsibilities

• Assignment is in a Level 1 trauma acute care ICU with surgical, neuro, medical/cardiac, and overflow units

• Nurse-to-patient ratios are typically 1:2 or 1:1 depending on patient acuity

• Patient population includes trauma, neuro-surgical, cardiovascular, medical, and surgical critical care cases, including falls, GSW, MVAs, ex-lap, crani, CVA, sepsis, ARDS, DKA, vascular surgeries, and post TAVR or CABG

• Common titratable and set-rate drips used include propofol, fentanyl, versed, precedex, morphine, dilaudid, ketamine, rocuronium, vasopressors, insulin, and heparin

• Unit uses GE monitors; RNs interpret their own strips as there are no monitor techs

• Ventilator management required with Dreager, Hamilton, Puritan Benette 840, V60s BiPAP, and Airvo equipment

• Cerner EMR is used; prior experience is preferred

• Night shift, 12-hour shifts, with self-scheduling and expectation of three weekend shifts per four-week schedule

• Floating required, including to tele units with 1:3 or 1:4 ratios and between three ICUs on site as needed

• Responsibilities include advanced ICU nursing care for diverse trauma, neuro, cardiac, and medical patients

• First-time travelers are welcome if all experience requirements are met

• Orientation includes 1-2 unit-specific days and skill validations for trauma, neuro, and specialty devices

• Expectations include interpreting all cardiac monitoring strips independently and regular float between all ICU units

• Unit does not utilize nurse aides except for sitters and as health unit secretaries

• Holiday coverage requires working all but one holiday per assignment

• Navy scrubs are required

• Passing a simulation lab and sterile technique test on Day 1 is mandatory for continued employment
Requirements

• Active AZ or compact RN license required at time of application; pending licenses not accepted

• Minimum of 3 years recent ICU experience, with experience in either neuro or cardiovascular ICU settings

• Current certifications in BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS required

• Successful completion of a dysrhythmia exam within hours prior to offer, with a maximum of two attempts

• Pass/fail simulation lab assessment on Day 1 of orientation

• Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility

• Candidates may not have worked in any facility associated with Common Spirit, CHI, or Dignity in any capacity within the past year

• Experience with titration of critical care drips required

• Must provide two professional references—one supervisor reference from the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from the last three years
