Job Description

The Project Engineer supports the Project Manager and Superintendent in the planning, execution, and closeout of underground and utility construction projects, including water, sewer, storm drain, dry utilities, and associated civil work. The PE is responsible for technical coordination, documentation, cost control, scheduling support, and communication with owners, engineers, inspectors, and subcontractors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review contract documents, plans, specifications, and special provisions for underground utilities
  • Prepare and track submittals (pipes, fittings, bedding, backfill, testing, traffic control, etc.)
  • Manage RFIs, change requests, and correspondence with engineers and owners
  • Assist with cost tracking, quantity takeoffs, and change order pricing
  • Support CPM schedule updates and short‑interval planning
  • Coordinate utility conflicts, potholing, and field layout with survey crews
  • Track material deliveries, testing, inspections, and as‑built documentation
  • Assist with pay applications, SOV updates, and progress reporting
  • Maintain project documentation in Procore / SharePoint / Project Management systems
  • Support closeout including redlines, as‑builts, warranties, and O&M manuals
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (preferred)
  • 1–5+ years of experience in underground utilities or heavy civil construction
  • Experience with water, sewer, storm drain, and dry utility installations
  • Familiarity with municipal, county, and DOT projects
Technical Skills
  • Ability to read and interpret civil plans, profiles, and utility details
  • Understanding of trenching, shoring, dewatering, bedding, backfill, and compaction
  • Knowledge of specs such as MAG, ADOT, AWWA, ASTM (or equivalent)
  • Basic understanding of traffic control and permitting requirements
  • Experience with quantity tracking and cost control
Software Skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Familiar with Procore, Vista Viewpoint, Bluebeam, and scheduling software (MS Project or Primavera)
  • Ability to assist with CPM updates and progress tracking
