YourOpportunity
Senior Project Engineers plan, design, and direct engineering projects focused on transportation systems such as highways, streets, bridges, tunnels, drainage structures, roadway lighting, airports, railroads, and commuter trains. They assess potential construction sites, check existing structures for upgrades, and create drawings and schematics using computer‑aided design (CAD) software. Engineers approve and prepare proposals and cost estimates, evaluate project progress, recommend changes, and represent project work in client meetings.
They may provide leadership and training to junior staff, advise on complex problems, and apply advanced engineering principles. Projects range from smaller assignments to higher revenue, complex undertakings requiring coordination of multiple stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform advanced engineering design tasks on assigned projects under minimal supervision, including engineering drawings, reports, presentations, and required applications to regulatory and/or funding agencies.
- Develop project scope, budgets, and design approach; support marketing and business development in positioning for potential projects, write technical portions of proposals, participate in client interviews, and support negotiations for project contracts.
- Collaborate with stakeholders in client project requirement meetings and coordination meetings with internal, external consultants, owners, contractors, sub‑contractors, and vendors to prepare and coordinate project specifications.
- Lead project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owners, contractors, sub‑contractors, and vendors.
- Perform on technically complex projects and act as a technical resource for other project teams.
- Apply advanced knowledge of current principles and practice of transportation engineering, staying informed of new methods and developments.
- Use knowledge and expertise gained through progressive experience to resolve complex issues where precedent may be limited.
- Lead the development of proposals and contract negotiation on progressively larger and/or more complex projects.
- Develop new standards and specifications for transportation engineering design.
- Supervise the work of other project resources, including setting the project budget and their schedules, in conjunction with Project Manager(s).
- Perform any other duties as required and assigned.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to creatively apply technical knowledge.
- Attention to detail, positive attitude, desire to support team success, and ability to function well in a fast‑paced environment.
- Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering with an emphasis in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Minimum eight (8) years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of experience.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
- Design experience in roadway, rail transit, and associated utility impact mitigation preferred.
Typical office environment involves working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time.
