We look for people who have bold new ideas, courage, and a pioneering spirit to join forces to invent the future and have fun along the way.
Our culture thrives on intellectual curiosity, cognitive diversity, and bringing your whole self to work.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct research into phases of atomic and molecular, nuclear, solid state, thermal, and other physical phenomena. Develop theories and laws based on observed results and predict phenomena in areas such as acoustics, electricity and magnetism, electronics, heat, light, mechanics, radiation, optics, and lasers.
- Identify susceptible piece‑parts in a given system to varying ionizing radiation effects based on part type and technology.
- Perform test/response data research on identified susceptible parts to determine where testing is needed given a program’s specific radiation requirements.
- Perform ionizing radiation testing on electronic parts using flash x‑ray, cyclotrons, linear accelerators (LINAC), Co‑60 and neutron sources. Design and develop test fixtures and device characterization procedures.
- Prepare test plans and procedures for EEE parts testing in ionizing radiation environments. Candidates are preferred for dose rate, SEE and neutron environments.
- Design and develop test fixtures and software for individual device testing. Perform device characterization in‑situ or on specialized test-fixturing. Experienced in hardware and software debugging.
- Perform transport analysis of ionizing radiation through materials to determine transported radiation environment/spectra; experience with NOVICE, MCNP/Atilla, SRIM/TRIM and THTk is preferred.
- Perform device and system calculations on expected upset rates given device SEE characteristics and trajectory/orbit parameters; experience with CREME
96, OMERE, and SIRE2 is preferred. - Perform data analysis, including statistical analysis, and part‑level SEECA (single event effects criticality analysis).
- Design and implement mitigation techniques at the piece‑part/circuit card/box level for ionizing radiation effects including photocurrent management, circumvention strategies, and event detection/state management/recovery.
- Bachelor’s degree with 12 years of experience or Master’s degree with 10 years of experience.
- U.S. citizenship.
- Ability to obtain and maintain required security clearance prior to start.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to work collaboratively in team environments.
- Advanced degree (MS minimum) in physics, electrical engineering, material science, or mechanical engineering.
- Active Secret Security clearance or Top Secret highly preferred.
- High dose rate test experience (MIL‑STD‑883).
- Computational FTDT methods.
- Electromagnetic testing (MIL‑STD‑464/MIL‑STD‑461).
- Familiarity with nuclear weapon effects.
- Experience in testing/analysis of natural space radiation environment (TID; MIL‑STD‑883, SEE; JESD
57/ASTM F1192). - EEE part selection for aerospace systems.
- X‑ray/gamma/beta/ion transport analysis.
