Join Northrop Grumman Space Systems as a Principal Electro‑Optical Subsystem I&T Engineer to support the Launch Vehicles business unit. The role is part of the Seeker IPT, where you will help integrate and test development/flight hardware, characterize and evaluate performance, develop the seeker test suite, maintain and calibrate optical test equipment, and ensure representative data are captured to support physics‑based models. You will thrive in a fast‑paced environment with diverse assignments and collaborate across all levels.
Responsibilities- Assist in creating and documenting test plans, procedures, and test cases based on system requirements and design specifications.
- Support integration of hardware, software, and firmware components to ensure system functionality and interoperability.
- Participate in executing test procedures, collecting data, and verifying that system components meet performance and design requirements.
- Identify, isolate, and resolve technical issues during integration and testing under guidance from senior engineers.
- Collect and analyze test data to validate system performance, report findings, and provide feedback for improvements.
- Prepare detailed test reports, including observations, test configurations, and results.
- Maintain test environments, setups, and instrumentation, ensuring all hardware and software resources are ready for testing.
- Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including system engineers, design engineers, and project management, to align testing objectives with program goals.
- Perform basic compliance checks and ensure testing activities adhere to organizational and safety standards.
- Engage in continuous technical learning and training to improve knowledge of integration and testing processes, tools, and methodologies.
- Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline with 5 years of related experience, or Master’s degree with 3 years of experience.
- Active U.S. Government DoD Secret clearance at time of application.
- Basic knowledge of EO imaging systems spanning the visible to LWIR spectrum.
- Understanding of root‑cause and corrective action methodologies.
- Preference for hands‑on hardware work and independent operation with minimal guidance.
- Self‑motivated, meticulous, and experienced with free‑space alignment tools such as autocollimators, theodolites, laser setups, and optical alignment techniques.
- BS/MS in Optical Engineering or Physics preferred.
- Experience with missile systems and associated standards, including DoD missile defense programs.
- Knowledge of EO systems in seeker applications—optical design, analysis, tolerancing, error budgets, opto‑mechanics, and focal‑plane technologies.
- Experience taking radiometric measurements with spectroradiometers, cameras, and detectors.
- Experience with Zemax, CodeV, or FRED.
- Experience setting up experimental layouts using CAD software such as Solid Works, NX, or Creo.
- Experience integrating hardware using LabVIEW.
- Proficiency with data analysis tools such as MATLAB or Python.
Primary Level Salary Range: $86,600 – $130,000. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and discretionary bonuses, plus potential long‑term incentives for VP or Director roles. Benefits include health insurance, life and disability insurance, savings plan, company‑paid holidays, and paid time off (PTO) for vacation or personal business.
