Mining HVAC Engineer

Your Opportunity

The Mining Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning Engineer leads the design, analysis, and implementation of underground ventilation systems. Responsibilities include creating system designs, conducting optimization studies, collecting onsite data, identifying energy‑saving opportunities, and collaborating with clients for approvals. The role reports to the Senior Mine HVAC Engineer and works with a multidisciplinary technical team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide expertise in the design and construction of ventilation systems for underground mines.
  • Develop design manuals, technical reports, calculations, drawings, and specifications for ventilation and heating/cooling infrastructure.
  • Create ventilation models and designs for underground mines, and recommend modifications to existing systems.
  • Review and advise on the compliance of underground mine ventilation systems.
  • Work with multidisciplinary teams to integrate ventilation requirements into mine design and other engineering disciplines.
  • Apply best practices in ventilation and mining safety engineering, designing HVAC systems and controls in accordance with regulations and production needs.
  • Provide operational support during commissioning and construction phases.
  • Create scopes of supply and construction scopes of work for ventilation systems.
  • Conduct ventilation surveys and field tests in challenging environments.
  • Maintain technical client relationships and support proposal development.
Capabilities and Credentials
  • Self‑starter able to handle change and work with minimal supervision.
  • Willing to challenge own and others’ work for quality and safety.
  • Effective communicator with relationships at all levels.
  • Produces clear, concise engineering deliverables.
  • Manages multiple assignments amid shifting priorities.
  • Demonstrates interest in mine ventilation and a desire to learn.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Can travel to client sites or Stantec offices (~10% travel).
  • Valid driver’s license required.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with an HVAC specialization or equivalent.
  • 5‑10 years of HVAC engineering experience, preferably in underground mining or industrial HVAC.
  • Professional Engineering license preferred (or intent to obtain).
  • Experience in underground mine development and construction a plus.
  • Familiarity with tunnel/underground ventilation and fire‑light safety requirements a plus.
  • Proficiency with VentSIM; CFD software experience desirable.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.

Pay Range
  • Locations in CO, HI, IL, MD & Various CA, NJ Areas – Min Salary $ – Max Salary $

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay‑transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for required locations. Final compensation is based on qualification, experience, and location. Certain roles are bonus eligible. Part‑time roles are pro‑rated based on hours per week.
