The Secondary Academics Coordinator provides regional leadership and instructional support for Mesa Public Schools’ secondary schools within an assigned pair of regions. Working under the direction of the Regional Director of Academics and Executive Director of Learning Communities, and in collaboration with the Secondary Academics Coordinator and Regional Learning Lead, this position supports instructional quality, curriculum implementation, and assessment for learning.
In addition to regional responsibilities, the coordinator contributes to district wide initiatives aligned with the focus area of the supervising Regional Director of Academics. The coordinator works with district leaders, principals, and teachers to ensure coherence, alignment, and continuous improvement within the framework of Mesa Public Schools’ Portrait of a Graduate.
- Regional Leadership:
Serve as a regional point-of-contact for instruction, curriculum, assessment, and professional learning; support implementation of instructional priorities across assigned schools. - Instructional Leadership:
Provide coaching and professional learning for principals and site-based coaches; collaborate to ensure vertical alignment between elementary and secondary levels. - Collaboration:
Work with Regional Learning Leads, district coordinators, and specialists to ensure coherence among curriculum, professional learning, and assessment systems. - District-wide Initiatives:
Contribute to district wide initiatives aligned with the supervising Regional Director of Academics and ensure alignment with Portrait of a Graduate. - MTSS and HQIM:
Support the systems of MTSS and monitor fidelity of high-quality instructional materials across content areas; assist with data collection and analysis to guide continuous improvement. - Communication:
Report progress, needs, and feedback to the Regional Director of Academics and district leadership; ensure access to tools and training for instructional feedback cycles. - Scheduling:
Support the development and monitoring of school master schedules.
- Plan and facilitate professional learning experiences for instructional coaches, teacher leaders, and principals.
- Collaborate with district directors, coordinators, and specialists to ensure consistency in support.
- Participate in regional instructional leadership team (ILT) meetings and contribute to regional and district wide learning initiatives.
- Serve as a communication bridge between district support and site-based instructional teams.
- Share regional data, trends, and feedback with the Regional Director of Academics to inform continuous improvement.
- Contribute to planning and reflection cycles to evaluate coaching impact and instructional growth.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support Mesa Public Schools’ academic goals and Portrait of a Graduate.
Curriculum Design & Implementation
- Support the design and implementation of curriculum in 7–12 content and related areas.
- Develop and implement curricular supports including pacing guides, content frameworks, and curriculum documents; partner with school leadership and coaches to strengthen integration of curriculum and instructional frameworks.
- Collaborate with Academic Learning Specialists to refine instructional resources and gather field feedback.
- Support selection, evaluation, and adoption of instructional resources for elementary content and related areas; ensure access to resources.
- Oversee submission, monitoring, and review of supplemental instructional resources.
- Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field.
- Valid Arizona Department of Education teaching certificate and SEI endorsement.
- Three years of secondary classroom teaching experience.
- Master’s degree in educational leadership, curriculum and instruction, or administration.
