Job Overview

Field engineers assist with the management of construction projects to make sure they run smoothly, safely, and effectively. They have a wide range of job responsibilities. Field Engineers monitor activities at construction sites and work to ensure construction progresses as scheduled and contract specifications are adhered to.

Responsibilities
  • Attend job specific meetings including PIT, Whiteboard, Bullet proof walks, and any other pertinent job walks deemed necessary by Superintendent.
  • Gather information obtained and report to Superintendent.
  • Review Shop and Erection drawings with Project Engineer and ensure field use drawings are current; ensure old sets are brought back to the office or disposed of.
  • Monitor job progress in the field, which may be self-performed or subcontracted work; report progress to the Superintendent.
  • Perform QC work in the field (prior to official inspection) and follow QC testing procedures. Tasks include bolts, welds, installation, layout, etc.
  • Coordinate deliveries: know when deliveries are coming, be on site when they arrive, verify material with BOL, coordinate with General Foreman and report back to Project Engineer and Superintendent on any issues such as accuracy, damage, or completeness.
  • Schedule inspections for bolts, epoxy, welds, lot tests, etc.; attend inspections and answer questions inspectors may have, bring IFC drawings, updates and/or approved RFIs.
  • Ensure inspections are completed and paperwork is handed off to the Project Engineer for record keeping.
  • Initiate field related RFIs and/or support field gathering of information for an RFI to support Project Engineer for submittal.
  • Prepare, submit, and track project specific field documents; ensure current version of the form is being used and is the correct/approved form in the field.
  • Report to the PE/project team that a NCR (Non-conformance report) issue has been identified in the field, with photos if required.
  • Coordinate as-builts with General Foreman; provide documentation to Superintendent and/or requesting party.
  • Conduct/facilitate concrete scanning.
  • Conduct and/or verify field survey is completed, review and document results.
  • Help prepare and review crane plans, erection plans, and logistics plans, if needed; assist the Superintendent and work with Safety to ensure field utilizes final approved plans.
Qualifications
  • Use computer programs such as Navisworks, Trimble, Bluebeam, Vista, Microsoft Office Products, Tekla, etc.
  • Be a team player and support the project team; we wear many hats and do whatever is needed to ensure the project success!
Physical Demands

A Field Engineer is anticipated to spend much of their day in the field. Able to stand and walk for long periods of time outdoors in varying weather conditions. Occasionally required to utilize fall protection harness and work from heights. Must lift 10 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds on occasion.
