The Temporary Track Crew I Support role is responsible for facilitating motorsports events at Firebird Motorsports Park (FMP). This role ensures that all safety, regulatory, and operational tasks are performed efficiently to meet NHRA (National Hot Rod Association) standards and other governing regulations.
Responsibilities Head of Staging- Ensure efficient vehicle staging before each race.
- Coordinate the flow of vehicles from the pits to the starting line.
- Communicate with other team members to maintain a smooth schedule.
- Manage the waterbox area, assisting vehicles with tire traction.
- Ensure that vehicles entering the box area are aligned correctly for the burnout procedure.
- Oversee the overall operation of the startline, ensuring vehicles are ready for competition.
- Ensure compliance with NHRA safety standards and event rules.
- Initiate races by controlling the starting lights (Christmas tree) and ensuring fairness in starts.
- Ensure track safety before each race starts, removing obstacles and confirming track readiness.
- Ensure that every driver, crew member, and team representative has signed the appropriate liability waivers.
- Distribute wristbands or tickets to participants and crew after verifying waiver completion.
- Monitor access to restricted areas, ensuring only authorized personnel are admitted.
- Inspect vehicles to ensure they meet NHRA safety and regulatory standards.
- Verify vehicle modifications and safety equipment, ensuring drivers adhere to NHRA rules.
- Technical personnel must be certified at bronze or silver level through NHRA testing.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with all NHRA technical rules during the event.
- Race Control/Tower Support
- Record and input vehicle data during each race.
- Ensure accurate timing and scoring data is logged for each participant.
- Provide clear and informative commentary throughout the event.
- Communicate essential information to racers, teams, and spectators, ensuring smooth event progression.
- Elapsed Time (E.T.) Slip Distribution.
- Provide time slips with race results to drivers after each run.
- Monitor any vehicle issues not observed by the startline team and report them.
- Ensure that drivers are adhering to their respective speed categories and event guidelines.
- Communicate effectively with drivers to relay important race-related information.
- Driving any company vehicle or equipment is strictly prohibited.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures as set by NHRA, Firebird Motorsports Park (FMP), promoters, and event sanctioning bodies.
- Respond quickly to any incidents or emergencies to ensure the safety of participants and attendees.
Other duties may be assigned as necessary. Duties and responsibilities may change at any time with or without notice.
Working Conditions- Work will be performed both inside and outside on a regular basis, in most weather conditions.
- Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
- Evening, weekend, and holiday shifts are required as a normal part of this position.
- Occasional local day travel.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, and walk extended periods. The employee occasionally is required to bend, climb, stoop, lift, carry, push, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
Required Qualifications- High School diploma or GED.
- CPR and First Aid Certification within 90 days of hire.
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required for assigned race events.
- Satisfactory result obtained through a test for illegal drugs.
- Acknowledge and agree to maintain a drug-free workplace.
- Previous experience in motorsports events or track operations preferred.
- Familiarity with NHRA regulations and safety standards.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Certification by NHRA as Bronze or Silver level (for Technical Support roles).
- Knowledge and experience working with Gila River Indian Community or other Native American Communities.
- Proficient in MS Office and other relevant workplace tools.
