The Product Design Team focuses on technology platforms and products supporting the company’s future growth. Breeding research covers trait discovery, validation, molecular detection, biochemical assays, plant growth, and molecular breeding. Our work translates into new product opportunities and shortens time to market.
Position SummaryThe primary responsibility of Breeder II is to manage a commercial variety development program focused on improved nutritional profile of soybean grain. The role requires a strong innovation mindset, rapid expertise in trait identification, expression and phenotyping, and ability to apply technology in soybean breeding.
You Will- Manage the product development program focused on compositional traits for soybean relative maturity groups 3.5 to 5.
- Work closely with the breeding operations team on nursery and yield trial plans.
- Lead phenotyping coordination with the Champaign, IL operations team.
- Identify and communicate strategic improvement opportunities to the program and leadership.
- Execute data analysis, interpret results, and nominate candidates for commercial variety development.
- Build tools and processes with breeders and scientists to accelerate genetic gain.
- Assist with prediction model validation during varietal advancement.
- Learn state‑of‑the‑art software for population development and assist in selections.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education
- MS degree or PhD (preferred) in plant breeding, genetics, crop physiology, pathology, or related field.
Experience
- 4+ years in a crop breeding program.
- Excellent skills in breeding, molecular breeding, and phenotyping.
- Strong understanding of experimental design and scientific concepts.
- Strong data‑management skills and familiarity with proprietary and commercial analytical applications.
- Proficiency in R or Python programming is preferred.
- Experience with technology applications that accelerate breeding (data analytics, imaging, machine learning, environmental analysis, physiology, pathology, etc.).
