Overview

The RN Supervisor coordinates the operations and nursing personnel within the Behavioral Health department. Provides clinical expertise and program management within the behavioral health clinical area. Serves as a liaison and resource to staff members, as well as provides direct patient care. The RN Supervisor is responsible for supporting the Patient Care Manager/Director in the administrative duties of the clinic and providing leadership through collaboration with the healthcare team and maintaining standards of professional nursing practice in the clinical setting.

This position will participate in organizational and department based quality improvement activities, and provide input on standards of care to maintain quality patient outcomes. Will also maintain the clinical competencies needed to provide direct patient care when the need arises.

Qualifications
  • Certification:
    National Nursing Certification within 3 years - varies
  • Licensed Registered Professional Nurse (RN) – Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days – American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Education:

    Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing – required
  • Work Experience:

    Behavioral health nursing
Responsibilities
  • Coordinate daily nursing and staffing activities of department; monitor and oversight of daily nursing workflow.
  • Perform staff nurse duties as needed to ensure adequate staffing and delivery of safe patient care.
  • Monitor all quality initiatives and process improvement activities in the department.
  • Develop and implement departmental and organizational policies/procedures and initiatives.
  • Provide staff education, ensure competency, orientation and perform bi‑yearly evaluations.
  • Monitor and oversee ordering of department supplies, equipment, and medication.
  • Participate in all nursing and organizational leadership programs, meetings and initiatives.
  • Ensure staff members are adequately trained and competent in required job tasks.
  • Handle personnel actions including hiring, performance appraisals, promotions, assignments, and review/edit of subordinates’ work.
  • Resolve work‑related issues or assist employees in resolving work‑related issues, consulting with manager for more complex situations.
  • Provide and facilitate competent health care of patients and families in area of practice.
  • Ensure adherence to established standards of care and scope of practice.
  • Develop, implement and participate in quality improvement initiatives and perform quality audits as directed.
  • Plan, administer, and evaluate patient care in practice.
  • Coordinate quality outcome metrics and data to support quality activities.
  • Model professional, personal, and process goals by prioritizing activities.
  • Coordinate and attend appropriate organizational and departmental meetings; discuss employment related matters, policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Maintain leadership role within division meetings.
  • Support psychiatry residency program development; oversee nursing staff involved.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary patient care conferences to discuss high‑risk patients with physicians.
  • Assist Director & Manager in collecting information for accreditation surveys and departmental audits; implement recommended changes.
  • Serve as educational liaison and resource to nursing throughout health system on behavioral health patient care and needs.
