Promise Healthcare is looking for a full-time Mental Health Counselor to join our health center. We provide primary medical care and behavioral health services and have on-site dental services. This role delivers culturally competent psychotherapy or counseling to individuals, groups, or families at one or more locations and coordinates programs to meet social and emotional needs. The counselor collaborates with primary medical, behavioral, and oral health care providers to deliver integrated care for patients.

Responsibilities- Receives referrals and assesses the mental health needs of patients.
- Provides direct counseling to patients promptly.
- Monitors patients’ progress and adjusts treatment plans as necessary.
- Drafts consumer therapy plans and measures consumer outcomes.
- Maintains records in an electronic health record related to counseling, collaboration, and all patient contact, in keeping with funding source requirements and completed promptly.
- Updates treatment plans as required and presents case consultations.
- Makes referrals for specialized services and tracks progress.
- Collaborates with medical and social services providers regarding patients’ emotional and psychological needs.
- Advocates for improved services for patients with mental health needs.
- Helps design and structure an effective mental health program within Promise Healthcare.
- May provide group counseling and/or emergency triage services as needed.
- Educates patients and their families about addiction and coping strategies.
- Assists patients in developing skills to prevent relapse (if substance use patient).
- Maintains scheduling capabilities to ensure adequate patient access to appointments.
- Maintains progress notes and other documentation required for the patient medical record and utilization management within policy timelines.
- Stays current with continuing education and licensing.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.
- Superior verbal and written communication skills.
- Working knowledge of local medical and social service systems.
- Strong documentation skills and comfort with electronic health records.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a clinic setting.
- Clinical skills to facilitate client sessions and social groups.
- Ability and willingness to work across a wide range of therapeutic modalities.
- Interest in working with people including disadvantaged populations.
- Ability to work in high-contact situations and remain calm under stress.
- Commitment to professional ethics and patient confidentiality.
- Licensed Clinical Social Worker (preferred).
- Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor or Licensed Clinical Psychologist (welcome).
- Experience working with children, adolescents, and families with diverse challenges.
- Experience with substance use patients in addition to mental health is preferred.
- Licensed Substance Abuse Counselor (LSAC) or Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) credential or equivalent desired.

- Loan repayment through HRSA and the State of Illinois programs. Up to $75,000 for clinicians working with substance use disorders. One-time Spanish language proficiency enhancement up to $5,000.
Proposed salary range: $60,500 to $74,000.
