OverviewThe Retail Pharmacy Technician works under the direct supervision of a pharmacist to fill prescriptions, assist patients, and perform other pharmacy service duties as required.
Qualifications- Certified Pharmacy Technician:
Not required if student pharmacist or licensed before 1/1/2008. - Certified Pharmacy Technician within 2 years of license issue date (IL) – varies.
- Licensed Pharmacy Technician within 60 days of license application – Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR).
- Assist pharmacist under direct supervision in provision of pharmaceutical care.
- Perform technical tasks such as filling, compounding, reconstitution, and labeling.
- Enter patient information accurately into the pharmacy computer system, including address, phone number, allergies, and date of birth.
- Enter correct medication information such as medications, strength, route, number of refills, and physician name.
- Perform calculations needed for prescription input and dispensing.
- Correctly identify patient per protocol prior to dispensing medication.
- Offer patient counseling by a pharmacist prior to completing the transaction.
- Prioritize work to fill prescriptions in order of importance.
- Initial Rx labels on all prescriptions.
- Follow department procedures for maintaining drug and supply inventory, removing expired medications, rotating stock, and cleaning and organizing assigned areas.
- Perform prescription returns and insurance reversals on a regular basis.
- Respond to phone call inquiries and walk‑up service requests, resolving issues or redirecting them appropriately.
- Use department equipment properly, including point of sale equipment, pill counters, and vendor software.
- Perform select assigned tasks that may include specialized or advanced training and/or competency such as facilitating prior authorizations and advanced insurance/provider inquiries.
- Recommend/involve in implementation of efficiency or department initiatives.
- Participate in tasks related to quality assurance monitoring, data collection, and analysis.

CompensationAnd Benefits
The compensation range for this position is $18.89 per hour – $30.60 per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered to a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
