Overview

This role will report to and work in collaboration with the Interim Director of Academic Inclusive Excellence to promote student support services on campus for undocumented and mixed status students. This position is part of the Immigrant Student Support team under the direction of Dr. Gioconda Guerra Pérez.

Responsibilities
  • Provides daily management of undocumented student undergraduate mentors.
  • Assist with the selection, training, and supervision of the undocumented student undergraduate mentors.
  • Maintain communication and work in collaboration with university and other stakeholders for the planning, implementation, and assessment of the undocumented student support programs.
  • Provide direct support and assistance to incoming and current undocumented students at Illinois.
  • Maintain basic data collection for undocumented student support service statistics.
  • Lead trainings on issues related to undocumented/DACA student support and policy for the campus community, including the semesterly Undocumented Student Ally Training.
  • Act as a liaison with student organizations supporting undocumented students.
  • Conduct research on best practices to support students affected by immigration policies.
  • Solve problems and make sound decisions in a timely manner.
Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with supporting immigrant students, especially those who are undocumented or temporary protected statuses.
  • Familiarity with basic needs of undocumented and mixed-status college students.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong intercultural knowledge and awareness.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations.
  • Strong attention to detail.
Compensation

Commensurate with current Illinois policies on graduate student stipends and waivers. Please notify the interviewer if you are eligible for Federal Work-Study.
